I completely understand how you have come to find yourself looking for maths tuition for your child. It might be that you do not have the knowledge to support your child with maths and that is okay. My children are now young adults but if I had needed to support them for English when they were at school, I would have been lost. Although I enjoyed English at school myself and I wrote some creative pieces, I am definitely not qualified to teach it and would not know how to support a child through GCSE English. However, give me a simultaneous equation and I am blissfully in my happy place!
Even if you did have the mathematical knowledge, finding the time to support your child is a challenge in itself, especially if you are a working parent. We find ourselves balancing many spinning plates and it is almost impossible to find the time to support your child with their education, on top of nurturing and caring for them in general.
Not forgetting the arguments! You might be lucky enough to have the time and the knowledge to support your child with maths but it isn't easy teaching your own children. I still remember my youngest shouting out "just give me the answers!" as he stormed off to his bedroom on one particular occasion when I had tried to help him with his maths homework.
